Dr. Kathryn Leopold, M.D.
About
Dr. Leopold enjoys all aspects of gynecologic care and cares for patients of all ages. She has special interest and expertise in vulvovaginal disorders, menopause, bleeding problems, geriatric care, and pediatric gynecology. She views surgery as a ‘last resort’ but when required, she is committed to the minimally invasive vaginal and laparoscopic surgical approaches.
Following completion of her undergraduate degree at the University of Connecticut, with a stint at Maynooth College in Ireland, Dr. Leopold remained at the University of Connecticut for Medical School. After completing her residency at the University of Michigan, she joined the faculty at Albany Medical College where she was quickly promoted to the head of the Division of General Gynecology and Obstetrics and was the recipient of several teaching awards. With the goal of focusing on raising her young children and having more time for direct patient care, she eventually left Albany Medical Center and joined Women’s Care in Saratoga Springs, New York. She became an owner in 2008 and served as President of the practice for over 10 years.
An 'empty nest' and feeling ready to focus exclusively on gynecology led Dr Leopold to seek a gyn-only practice opportunity in 2023. She was thrilled to find a group of skilled gynecologists with the same mission focused values about patient care in the team at Vermont Gynecology. It seemed like fate because Dr. Leopold and her husband have spent significant time pursuing their outdoor interests in Vermont and because her husband’s family lives in Vermont. In her free time Dr. Kate loves connecting with family and friends, reading, and doing pretty much anything outdoors especially cycling, skiing, hiking, and gardening.

Common Procedures
Laparoscopy, Hysteroscopy, Dilation and Curettage (D and C), Pelvic Prolapse, and Bladder Sling
Laparoscopy is a minimally-invasive procedure performed in the abdomen and pelvis through small incisions with the aid of a camera. Laparoscopic procedures improve the health of a patient by diagnosing and treating gynecological disorders. Treatment procedures may include removal of abnormal tissue, lesions, or dissolving tissue adhesions.
Hysteroscopy is a procedure that improves health by diagnosing and treating problems of the uterus inwomen of all ages. Hysteroscopy is performed using a thin tube that is inserted into the vagina to examine the cervix and inside of the uterus. This minimally invasive procedure allows the surgeon to simultaneously diagnose and treat issues such as uterine disorders, including abnormal bleeding, fibroids, polyps and potentially cancer.
Dilation and Curettage is a procedure performed to remove tissue from inside of the uterus to provide samples for diagnosing or treating some uterine conditions including heavy vaginal bleeding, post-menopausal bleeding, and hyperplasia.
Pelvic Prolapse is a procedure that improves health of the patient by reinforcing weakened walls of the bladder and vagina to improve vaginal bulging, prolapse, and bladder function.
A Bladder Sling is a surgically implanted mesh or human tissue that supports the bladder and vaginal wall. A Bladder Sling improves the health of the patient by relieving symptoms of urinary stress incontinence.
